Poetry

‘Still wouldst thou sing, and I have ears in vain-

to thy high requiem become a sod’

John Keats, Ode to a Nightingale

I find this part of my favourite Keats’ poem sums up my thoughts on poetry. For me, it is a life line and the most raw way to express myself. I have been writing poetry for several years now, and you’ll find below some pieces which I consider to be my best.

I’m inspired by love, grief, mythology, Gothic themes and constantly by the people around me.

Why We Speak’

Summer 2025

I’m interested in linguistics and the origin of language. After speaking with the poet Kirsten Norrie, I realised how language can cast spells (so to speak) if you use the right words. I decided to write an homage to the importance of language in return.

‘I am Sure’
September 2025

Inspired by the loss of my father, I explored new methods of graphology to replicate the confusing feelings of grief.

‘Death Poem’

August 2025

The death of my father has had a profound effect on my most recent poetry, both stylistically and thematically. I find grief to be both inspiring and debilitating.

I’m currently compiling a collection of my poems on the theme of grief to hopefully produce a small anthology.
